Hey Everyone,

I have for many years put 100% Anitfreeze on previous cars of mine and my dad's.
As well as my present Honda, I always figured that pure antifreeze would be less likely to boil.

However reading up on this, they claim that infact 100% antifreeze is "more likely" to boil then
50/50. Is this correct? If so, what issues if any is there by me using pure antifreeze?

Well for starters, antifreeze requires water to ACTIVATE the chemicals required to protect against boiling and freezing...

Doesnt straight antifreeze rot out your radiator faster?

 

Yep.

 

Yeah, actually the water is required for the anti-corrosion package, not for freezing. Freezing point is probably lowest with straight glycol, but that's not good for cooling or corrosion.

Straight water is best for cooling. But that's pretty bad for corrosion.

 

I would think the water pump would be designed for the less dense 50/50 mixture. Why not follow the insructions?????

 

Yeah as JimBlake and Baker both said....

The mixture is also less viscous which is better for your pump...
