Anyone seen this issue with a jumping tach during acceleration?

I know it's for a Civic but I see it in my Accord from time to time. I've seen videos where people slam on the gas and they can go up as high as they want without this happening but for me if I slam on the gas it goes up as high as I want but sometimes (I might even be letting my foot off so slightly I don't realize) the RPM jumps and the engine seems to slow down. Anyone seen this issue and know what it is? A commenter says the transmission is messed up but I don't understand how that's possible.

The way I understood it the tach counts RPM by using the spark plugs. For the RPM to shoot up and drop and the engine sound to change, that must mean this is being caused by something in the engine right? I thought the transmission simply converts or transmits the engine power to the drive axle so that the engine power is rationed according to gear ratio and not applied to the drive axle at 1:1 of what the engine is currently doing.

This is why a slipping transmission is when the engine is loud and working hard and RPM's are high but the car MPH is low and it's not actually moving as fast as it sounds like it is isn't it? Because there's a disconnect between the engine and the wheels because the transmission in between is busted. Am I wrong? Right? How can this kind of issue be caused by a busted transmission?

The tach gets its signal from the ignitor. Replace your ignition control module. If there's any oil in your distributor, replace the entire distributor.

But it's 09 it doesn't have a distributor it's coil over wire.

Your 1995 gets the tach signal from the ignitor.

1998 & newer get the tach signal from the ECU (even before they went to 4-coils).

Just for grins, for the benefit of other people reading this, the 95-97 V6 gets the tach signal from the coil.
