belt screeching on cold startup
my96' accord 4-cylinder belt squeels when istartit but it does it only when its been idle for sometime(morning, after couple ofhours idle, etc).i noticed this after they Honda dealership had replaced my t-belts.is there a way of adjusting this myself or the dealer has to fix it (1yr.warranty still good)? thanks!
it is pretty easy to adjust the belt tension, but you should take it back to the people that replaced the T-belt; Let them know the problem started AFTER they worked on the car.
For future referance all you have to do is loosen bolt on the alternator (I loosen all of them for ease of use, don't remove them, just loose) then push out on the alternator to pull the belt tight and re-tighten the bolts, you shouldn't have more than 1/2 inch travel (on the belt) up or down from its normal resting point....
This job is pretty easy, it's really easy with two people... but if it's loose now just ask them to fix it..... Also, when you tighten a belt be sure to inspect it really well, if it looks glossy or glazed replace it, cracked/frayed or extremely hard replace it... use oem honda belts
