Default Blue smoke on start up.

The first start of the day produces blue smoke & tons of it like the engine has just been sea-foamed. It usually only last a minute or two, then stops. The rest of the day no smoke is present on short stop overs or under hard acceleration. Let the car set for 5 to 6 hours or more & the smoke appears on start up again. I assume this is valve guide seals leaking. Any other ideas?

If it's blue on startup then I would guess it's a valve guide leaking as well.... Possible it's a ring but I doubt it.... Are you losing or burning much or any oil between oil changes?

High manifold vacuum will pull more oil through a leaky valve-stem seal.

So you can shift to a lower gear& take your foot off the gas completely (engine-braking). Have someone follow & watch for the blue smoke to increase under that condition to confirm.

It has almost stopped smoking on start up, but it does puff smoke when engine braking. I am just suprised that it has almost stopped smoking on start up--I did add a a quart of Lucas on the last oil change.
