Default brake not allowing shift from park

With my 93 Auto I'm suddenly not hearing the click under the shifter when I apply the break, it did this once when it was cold but now all the time, I have to use the shiftlock overide. I checked all the fuses.. any ideas?

Check for your brake lights to light up. If they dont, look for a bad switch - or loose/dirty/corroded plug for its wire.
Maybe a fuse, but I dont know WHICH fuse that is for 93.

The shift lock solenoid is probably bad or frozen if the switch is working fine. Double check the wiring on it or the fuse like Jim suggested.

As finch said, examine the shift lock solenoid. There is a 3-pin connector on the solenoid. Use a volt meter to test the connector on the outside pins (can't figure out what the middle pin is for). You can download a 91 shop manual from the Online threads link in the DIY section. This will help a lot.

Basically, a voltmeter should read 12V when you try to shift the car out of park by touching the volt meter leads to those two outside pins. If it does, then the solenoid is broken or frozen. Maybe some WD-40 would loosen it up.
