Default brake question

Hey guys,
I've got a question for you. I've got an 06 Accord with barely 20,000 miles. The brakes already seem to be fading. What's about average for the life of the brakes? 20k seems early to me to have to replace the pads. They also seem inconsistent to me, sometimes very touchy. Thanks for any input.

sounds like they could need to be bled...
when brake pads need replacing they make a screeching sound, and unless theres a small pulsating in the brake pedal usually the rotors are fine...

Why do you think the pads are worn down?

probably the composition of them,it might havebeen changed to make them quieter?

could be a change in brake proportioning also, but unlikely.
