Default brakes squeaking..

ok ; i have this high pitched sounds coming from my front brakes. i went to Les Schwab to check them out; they told me my brake pads are more than 60% new. they said it may be brake dust causing the squealing. i stuck my hose and rinsed it ; the sounds are still off and on. any other opinions?

Take them off, rip the shims off and throw them away and get some real anti-squeal on there.

With a screwdriver. It's just a little piece of sheet metal riveted on... I don't know why it would help though. Do you know what kind of pads they are? I have never had squeeking issues, except when my pads are pretty much dead.

Shims are supposed to help squealing, but don't always. The brake pad anti-squeal should be applied to back side of pads and pads re-installed. Even this doesn't seem to always fix. Disc brakes tend to squeal. Most times it's too high pitched to hear w/ windows up and AC on, but sensitive ears (women especially), tend to hear and it is indeed and irratating noise.

good luck
