Broke a gasket while changing ATF.
Hello Comrades!!!
My car is 2003 Accord EX V6 coupe.
There is a thread that basically explains what I am trying to do... https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...l-drain-44485/
If you've watched the video from this thread, then you will have better idea of what I'm going to talk about.
So I'm having troubles with unscrewing a gasket on the top of the transmission (the one that covers a hole through which you put new fluid in). What happened is that I was trying to take out this gasket, but it sits there so tight that even breaker bar didn't work and I basically destroyed edges of the gasket... well not completely but now it is more circle-ishh. Any ideas how to take it out now without breaking my transmission?
Another thing is that I have 12 qt of dextronIII and 8 of genue honda DW1. I was going to flush it completely with dextronIII, just like this dude
(note that his Accord is a previous generation) but here I'm facing a couple problems... Which way better, this one or 2007 Honda Accord V6 Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF Change/ Flush - Drain and Refill - YouTube ? If I do it 10 minutes way, it seems like you can get all of the old fluid out if you do it just once. But for this method I have to find my supply\demand hoses but where to find those on my 2003 Accord??? Also should I use dextron III to flush through, to get all the old fluid out and then drive with it for a week, then repeat the whole procedure with Honda Genuine ATF DW1 or is it better not to mix those and just do it both times with Honda Genuine ATF DW1? Should I even do it twice using this method or one time flush with fluid from honda would be enough?
So here...
1. How to get that gasket out?
2. Which way better?
3. Where to find transmission demand/supply hoses?
4. Should I flush it more than once using 10 minutes guy's way?
5. If answer to #4 is yes then should I use dextron III (since I already have it) first time or buy more Honda fluid and use it both times?
Thanks!

Yea, that bolt is in there. I had to use 1/2 drive breaker bar on the 17mm socket to get it loose the first time i changed the fluid on the Pilot......and yes when it does come loose there wiil be a "crack" and you will swear something broke.....you can search for a post "started by me" for more info.
From there, highly suggest a new plug from the dealer....since it sounds like yours is a "bit rounded off".
I'm a drain and fill with Honda Trans fluid guy.....so I won't get into which way.
Again, I will say, do not use the Dex III

, btw do you know the P/N for that gasket? So you would suggest to do the process just once?
Thanks!
In the attached, you are looking for #8 and #12 - it is a bolt and washer.....the washer is up to you. The dealer should be able to get this for you.
#8 - 25614-PK4-000
#12 - 90441-PK4-000
Depending on the "history" of the fluid changes? If you do not know the history then I would do at least two drain and fills......drive a few miles/days between them.

. BTW what way would you recommend to flush the transmission out of those two?
If head of bolt plug (not a gasket) is rounded, you can buy a set of "rounded bolt sockets" from sears that should have one to fit. Check sizes first, as I don't remember if they go up to 17mm sizes. This socket has a spiral ridge that will grab a completely round bolt and bite in to allow removal. Get a cheater pipe to extend leverage on breaker bar.
Unless the fluid has been abused, you can get by w/ a drain/replace. Repeat 1-2 to remove higher percentage of original fluid, but not necessary if fluid is in good shape; red w/ slight darkening.
If you're determined to perform a complete fluid removal, you will need to disconnect one of the AT cooling hoses from radiator lower side and briefly turn engine over to see where the fluid is going. Usually the hose towards the pax side is the delivery hose and driver side hose is return.
I've only done the complete fluid replacement once, on a Subaru Forester where the fluid was overheated due to a leaking ATF cooling hose. All my other ATF changes were a simple drain/replace once.
good luck

On the 03 v6 coupe, the filter is inside a "cover" on the end of the trans. Some say it does not need to be replaced. See the attached pic for the location and the cover I'm speak of.....your choice.
In the pic, #7 is the filter, you can decide on the o-rings/seals (#21 and #22). There are three bolts to the cover (#10)
As I said, I'm a "drain and fill" guy. So if the fluid looks bad, not sure of the history, ect....then I would drain and fill. Drive a few miles/days/next weekend do another drain and fill again. Up to three times, then I would sleep better at night
I'll also say, again, only use Honda Trans fluid....but that is me.

Can someone post some pictures where I can find those hoses. I'm not experienced with that sort of things at all, so I afraid to do something at less I know for sure that it is right. I just want to do it once and then sleep well at night
