Default A/C inoperative (sometimes)

I have a 1999 accord coupe 3.0 with 243k and running like a champ. Lately all the lights on my HVAC control unit have been turning on and off and I lose ac, blower still works but blows nasty hot air but it blows cold when they're lit. My initial thought was replace the unit so I did (used part) and still no dice. So beyond that I'm at a loss and could really use some help as it's now 90+ degrees and near 100% humidity. Thank you all!

Read through this thread about soldering a wire due to damage to the hvac circuit board. This may fix your problem.

There is still a question about the "used replacement" so that could still be in play.

If you still have the old one there is a "repair" you can try....do you solder well?

Hot wire the compressor directly to ensure that the A/C functions fine before going forward.

Thank you for your speedy response. I swapped in a known good part from a friends accord exactly like mine and wouldn't you know it....it works....lame....therefore you are correct and I happened to purchase a defective used part. To confirm this I also plugged in the control head I bought into his accord and it didn't work so now I believe I've pinpointed my problem only question left is where can I find a good part that won't break the bank? Any recommendations?

Poorman: I do still have the old part and am willing to give soldering a shot. I'm not the best with it but I have people who are. So if you can point me in the right direction as to what and where to solder i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again.

I haven't actually watched the video in this thread but it might help - https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...1934/.....more information is always a good thing. I'm sure there are other videos/threads/pictures floating around on the internet.

Since you have two and neither work, what is it going to hurt to try to repair one of them

Many bone yards do offer some sort of warranty on the parts they sell so trying another bone yard is an option. You could use something like "car-part" dot com to search local bone yards for another one.

E-bay or something like that is another option but again since this is a fairly common problem, the hassel of returning/getting your money back if you got another bad one would not be something I would want to worry with.
