Unhappy A/C issue

99 Accord EX with the V6 engine. 163,000 miles. Two weeks ago the A/C stopped cooling without warning. No compressor grinding or noises. I read the pressures on the low side and high side at idle and got 90 on the low side and 85 on the high side. Most likely cause? I jumped the compressor terminals at the relay and the clutch works. The relay is good. There is power to the relay. To make matters worse when I removed the gauge from the high side the freon leaked out in about 20 minutes. I could hear the hissing. Bad Schrader valve? I see a lot of $$$ to repair.

Me, I'd start with replacing the valve core on both the high and low side ports - and I'll break the rules and say leave the drier alone for now. Pull a vac on the system, remove the gauges once at the proper vac. Recheck the vac level ~20 minutes later.....what or how much did it drop?

All the freon leaked out. I just need to find the Schrader valves and the tool to replace them.

Problem w/ no compressor is likely electrical; AC relay, fuse, open clutch coil, or excess clutch gap (prevents coil field from closing clutch).

ackits.com is a good source for auto ac parts. Get a good quality AC Schrader valve to replace old. They are notorious to partially leak due to small debris under sealing surface.

good luck
