You could have a wide open expansion valve, but I would have thought you could develop some differential pressure.

Can you see any flow in the receiver/drier window port? If yes, the compressor may be working and expansion valve wide open.

Damn, I need to read these posts more closely. I didn't realize it was PAH w/ the problem!

good luck

I just went out and tried to pull off the clutch plate, but it still is attached securely. The clutch plate spins with little resistance. The site glass looks clear and I saw no air bubbles when the compressor was spinning.

Next up is to have the remaining R-134a recovered and quantified. Then I will take off one of the lines to see if there are metal shavings in it.

It may be due to a faulty field coil (stator set). A bunch of different model Acuras and some Honda Accords had a problem with it.

This Sept. 07 Acura Service News excerpt was related to the Acura RL; but, other Acuras also had the problem.

Thanks redbull. The clutch is definitely engaging. I'm assuming the coil is doing its job.

So it's likely either a faulty compressor (shaft broken, loose from driveshaft, rotor/stator damaged) or expansion valve wide open. Both alternatives seem unlikely, but it must be one of these.

Slightly hope it's a bad compressor. I think I looked at expansion valve replacement and pulled the covers back over my head (too scary!).

good luck
