The 4-cyl is an interference engine, so if the timing belt breaks the pistons would hit the valves ($$$$$). Pretty sure the V6 is also interference but not positive. The belt won't cause any problem at all until the moment it breaks.

But if the belt breaks on a 4 cylinder, you run the risk of damaging the valves and the pistons.
Since it's not broken, and it hasn't been changed, I'd be looking at having it done ASAP.
