My 2000 accord has a broken drivers side exterior handle and the childproof latch is engaged- so I can't open the door. Any tips or tricks?/??

I don't know, but you'll get better answers in the General Tech area. So I'll move this...

i assume you're referring to the rear driver's side door.

it's tough since removing the door panels is easy, but requires that the door be open.

you can remove the handle cover (and screw), as well as the window control panel (and screw). then MAYBE try to get the top lip of the door panel off of the door. lift and pull - i don't know how easy this will be when the panel is in place, but with the screws removed it might have enough play.

then you could reach down through and disengage.

If you can't open the door, you might make it easier on yourself by removing the rear-seat base & back, so the WHOLE inner door panel is accessible.

Just an idea...Is there any part of the handle that may be pulled with like a needle nose pliers? If you exterior handle is broken clean off, maybe you can try to get in through the open slot when it goes through the door to see if you can grab one of the lock actuator linkages?

I ended up taking it to a local Honda dealership where I bought the car and they had to drill a hole in the outside handle a pull on whatever they needed to unlock the door. I was very fortunate that the dealer was very responsible. It was a used car I had bought a month earlier with no warranty yet they only charged me for the part and not the Labor! Brew Honda in Longview Texas is a Quality dealership.
