Default '03 Accord doesn't detect door being opened - HELP!

Hello,

I am new to the forum and have searched for this, but haven't found a reference (maybe I am wording something wrong). This seems strange since this same issue occurred on the passenger side of the car 2 years ago and the dealer fixed it.

I have a 2003 Accord EX that does not detect when the driver's door has been opened. I know this because the dome light does not come on and the car re-locks the door after 30 seconds even though the door is open.

I don't know what the dealer did back then, but I am trying to avoid a trip to the dealer this time as money is tight. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Dave

As nobody has responded yet, perhaps this is a rare issue. However, if someone can shed some light on how the car detects when the door is open, I may be able to trace it myself.

It seems to me it might be a ground wire or something similar. Any thoughts on that?

Check the door switch, located in the door-jamb. Usually those things have one wire & they complete the circuit to ground when you open the door. Wire connection loose/dirty/corroded?

I can't find which parts picture that shows up on...

I was looking for that switch myself yesterday and couldn't find it. On any previous car I had it was on the front pillar where the hinge connects. Does Honda put it somewhere else?????

Usually that switch is a spring loaded button that when pushed in makes the connection, is it different in Honda?

This is the first Honda I have owned so I am asking some dumb questions. Sorry for that.

In the other doorjamb, the rear edge of the door. Maybe sorta low? It has a rubber boot over the switch button.

They put it there so it goes off even when the door is open by only a fraction of an inch.

Great! I found it. I guess the philips head screw under the cover directly above is what releases it. I will give it a try. Probably a fairly cheap part if it needs replacing in any case.

I appreciate the help.
