car making wierd noise

Default car making wierd noise

my car was making a very strange noise today. it would only do it while backing up and seemed to get worse as i accelerated. it kind of sounded like a horn or something. any ideas? my gf thought i ran over a cat lol

Check brakes. The pads have little metal tabs that touch the rotors &make screetching noise when the pads wear out. When they first just begin to touch, it can make some pretty funny sounds.

That must me what it is my brake fluid has been running low lately I know they're pretty wore down. Thanks jim

that doesnt explain why it only does it in reverse however

Thats EXACTLY what it did in my 95 Integra. Only in reverse, & it sounded like a nice tone (almost musical). I ordered brake pads & while I waited for them to show up it developed into the ugly screetching sound that is more common.

Its WAY TOO EASY to check your brake pads. By the time we finish discussing this, you could have looked at them to verify (or to rule it out).
