Question Car Won't Crank Intermittently

Hi Everyone. I have a question. My 94 Accord is intermittently not cranking when I turn the key. No click. Nothing happens. I know the starter and solenoid are good, because, I just replaced it. When that happens, I typically cross the connectors on the starter with a heavy gauge wire, and it starts. What could be causing this? Is there a starter relay that could be failing?

The little terminal gets power from the ignition. By jumping it you have verified that the starter and solenoid are good and there is no power from the ignition to the small terminal. You have to trouble shoot why. You have the ignition switch and the safety devices in the circuit such as the neutral safety.

Is there anything that typically goes bad in the circuit that I should check first? Also, I'm not the best with electrical, so any troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone? I'm really up a creek here, and might have to take it to the shop. I need to get this fixed ASAP, but could really use some direction. Thanks!!!

When you "cross the wires" on the starter, which wires? I don't know if you've already done what I'm suggesting...

Make up a wire so you can supply battery voltage to the SMALL terminal on the starter. If that makes it go, then the starter is ALL OK. In that case you want to post back for instructions on troubleshooting WHY the little wire doesn't get power from the ignition switch.

More likely(?) that won't work. In that case, you'll want to get a new starter. Or dismantle & repair your starter, if you feel inclined to do that.

is it AT or manual tranny ????

First off,, chk to make sure that wire going to solenoid black/white ) is tight ,,

Turn the key on start position ,( have someone help you ), chk to see if there is battery power at black/white wire at starter solenoid..

if no power,, first thing chk the use # 18 50 amps under hood fuse box........

if fuse is good, then it could be a bad ign switch, bad wiring, bad AT gear position switch if AT tranny,, ,,

if it is a manual tranny,, first chk the under dash fuse box..# 9 7.5 amps if ok.....chk to make sure that there is power in at blue/red wire at clutch switch.. and power out at the other wire black/green with clutch pedal depressed.. it has a relay located under left side of dash , by the main relay.. 4 wires going to it,,,( black/green, black, white/red, white,,,,,,

with clutch depressed , key on start position ( have someone turn key while you diagnose ) you should have power at black/green and white/red and ground on black wire..,and also power at the ( black/white , going to starter solenoid,),,,,if there is no power at black/white ( clutch pedal depressed , key on start position ,, and you got power at the other 2 wires and ground at black.. you got a bad relay

to test it,, jump the white/red to black/ white ,, if starter engages you found the problem
