Default CEL came on today????

well my CEL came on today and I was wondering what are some of the main things that trigger the light on a 2000 accord EX V6 3.0 ? i'm having my wife take it tomorrow to have it hooked up and see wats going on. keep in mind it has 266K on it so i'm leaning toward new 02 's maybe? being new to these cars I can't even think where to begain.

When she goes, ask here to get the actual code from them...."P" and four digits (P0420, P1456 for example). Too many to try to guess. Let us know what you/she find.

Just as a note to save you money, whenever the light comes on go to an auto parts store. They have readers and can pull the code right there for free.

What another member did on this board before was just order an inexpensive OBD-II reader from Amazon for around $20, so he didn't have to run around to get any basic trouble code(s) read.

I told a friend he could get an inexpensive reader through Amazon if he didn't want to buy a more expensive and better reader/scanner. I read his car before for trouble codes; but, we don't see each other that often; so, that was more convenient for my friend. In California (unlike most other states), places like Autozone will tell people that they can't read the trouble code(s) for them; they can rent the reader for free with a returnable deposit.
