Default Changing the Fuel tank on a 02 Accord, Have some Questions

Hi, Ihave been smelling gas and my Check engine light has been on, I am getting a EVAP code and I changed a few sensors, and what not still getting the code.

I smoked the tank and I can see smoke coming out from the top of the tank somewhere but can't see where. SO I have a New tank to put in ( Used got it from Arizona and looks to be in great shape ) I ordered new fuel Pump Filters, bolts washers gaskets and fuel tube plus all of the hoses above the tank, figured while I have tank down I should replace that stuff.

It appears I will have to drop the rear sub frame to do this job. Do you guys have any tips?

I didn't get the Valve Vent shut # 11 in photo but I did get # 5 the one way valve. IS there a way to check Number # 11 since I'll have one on my tank and one on the used tank.

Thanks

Do you live in corrosion country? (Salt on the roads?)

Take the valve & hook up jumper wires directly from the battery to operate it. When my vent-shut valve failed, it didn't even make any clicking sound.

Cant help about the subframe, I never had to replace the canister itself. But look around for cracked or disconnected hoses.

I think the tank it self is leaking up top, yes I live in NY they salt the road a lot, the tank looks good and the underside of my car looks like new though.

Here is a better link, The valve I am talking about is above the tank not near the carcoal canister.

So it's #5 and #11 in that other picture (from post #3)? That's the ORVR vent-shut valve; I'm not sure how to test that one. The CANISTER vent-shut valve is a common failure that would throw P1457.

Are you getting P1456 (EVAP leak in the tank) or P1457 (EVAP leak in canister)? I'm wondering if a bad gasket for one of those openings on the tank is causing P1456?

Ok, so far so good replaced the tank which had a bunch of holes under neath the under coating, My car looks very good underneath, there is no rust stuff must have just sat on top of the tank, so far no more codes.
