Default Changing a manual shift ****

I want to change my shift **** on my 2003 Honda Accord Ex 4-door. Its a manual shifter and I want to replace the **** hopefully making it shorter thus easier to shift. I know its not one of those easy twist and pop off ones but I think it has something on top, that with the right force, can be popped off giving access to maybe some bolts or screws, but I don't want to do anything or buy anything until I really know what I'm doing.

Please Help,

Thanks
