Question Changing the Stereo

I have a 2001 Accord with the original stereo in it. I have the code for it and it works fine. But i would like to change it for a new CD player.

I think i know how to take the old stereo out, but i am a bit worried about disconnecting the stereo. Will the alarm go off when i do this? there is an anti-theft light that flashes when the power to it is off.

What should i do here.

Thanks in advance.

You should disconnect the negative battery cable before starting on any electrical work to avoid accidentally shorting something out. When you finish and reconnect the battery cable, the alarm will usually go off. Depending on your Accord alarm system and trim level (e.g., DX, LX, or EX) there may be an alarm reset switch or button located under the driver's side dash.

What trim level is your Accord (LX, EX, etc.) and is it a Honda alarm?

Disconnect the battery or remove the fuse to the anti-theft system. I would do it anyway to prevent risk of electric shock/shorting anything when replacing the player.

The alarm probably will go off if you disconnect the player without removing power first.

With the exception of the EX (which was a factory installed alarm), other trim level Honda alarms were add-on accessories. The alarm systems were different, that's why I had to ask.

For your SE, this link shows the installation instructions for the accessory alarm. On the last page, it shows an example of the reset switch (button) installed under the driver's side lower dash cover. After the battery cable is reconnected and if the alarm goes off, while pressing the button, turn the ignition to ON.

No problem. Let me know if you found the reset button.
