Cheapest tranny replacement
there is no s light on a 92, only on the 90-91 years, the trans control unit is under the dash on the drivers side, maybe if your lucky you may have a friend with a 92-93 tcu to try. When my tranny went out on my 92 the d-4 light did not start flashing., a trans change out used to be 5-6 hours, I did mine at home without a lift in a little more than 5 hours.

Ah ok! No the D4 light didn't flash... and I dont think I have an S light. I've driven this car for years and I've never seen any of the gear indicator lights flash or any Sport light come on... are you sure this feature is in the 92's?

on your dash when the car is in drive you'll notice a D4 light (the gear selector lights) or the sport light is just a little "S" that lights up and/or flashes to indicate issues sometimes.

For reference, the most complicated thing I've done on my caris replace the valve cover gasket
I did a little mechanical work on a boat motor; diagnose/replace ECU, compression test, lower unit oil change, etc.I'm good with electronics but I dont have a lot of mechanical experience.
OK I found the Haynes manual and read the procedure.
I located the computer diagnostic connection and jumpered it with a wire. I then put the ignition on ON and watched the check engine light. It stayed on- solid. I pulled the wire out and the light went out. I assume this means that (1) I entered the code mode correctly and (2) there were no codes.
The car has been sitting a while and the battery was dead (I jumped it). Unfortunately I think this means that any codes present were erased. Is this true?
Thanks
