Default Just bought an Accord!

Hello everyone. I just bought a 1998 EX V6 a little over a month ago and probably is the best car I have ever had, but my engine light is on, and my temp tag has expired, and i need to get it tested for the emissions. I had Autozone check the code and said it was the EGR. I don't know a lot about an EGR and was wondering can it be cleaned? Has anyone else had a bad EGR? Thanks.

It can be cleaned. There is a TSB about this. Google 99-085 and the first pdf will be the tsb.

When you report problems on here in the future, write down the actual code (Like P1234), because the descriptions from the autozone computer may be wrong.

Hey thanks there, That pdf helped a lot. I would have written the code down but he didn't tell me the code. I am going to try and clean it then. Hopefully the light will go off after a drive cycle. Is there a way to get the codes off these cars w/o a tester? On my Altima there is a screw u turn forward and back on the computer itself and the light blinks and i go by my haynes manual. Thanks again.

I think there are two wires that can be used on the DLC, to make the CEL blink the codes, but don't know for sure which one's they are. I'll buy my own scanner/code reader, before I take that chance.
