Default Check Engine Light '96 LX

Guys

Just a quick question. My daughter got a check engine light and we took it AutoZone to read the code. It came back as a bad numder 1 O2 sensor (not the one in the Cat), and I replaced it.
My question is: How long will it take for the Check Engine light to go off? Or is there a way to force it to reset? I'd appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!

Rich

You will have to reset it using the OBD II reader. Otherwise, it might take a long time for that check engine light to desappear on its own.

You can pull the radio fuse in the engine bay fuse box for a minute. That will clear the ECU. You will have to reenter your stereo code as well.

What was the actual error code? There's 4 of em for the front O2 sensor. Any of those CEL codes could be caused by a bad sensor -OR- by bad wiring in the car. I'm pointing that out just in case the lamp comes back on after you reset it.

Generally, the warning lamp will quit (IF the problem is fixed) after quite a few driving cycles. But if the problem isn't fixed, the lamp will simply be triggered anew each time you drive.
