98 accord 4cyl- changed my battery out and started the car and the check engine light is gone. does that mean its fixed or did i just reset it? any help would be great. thanks

 

It would help if you knew what the code was for. But its possible that the problem was fixed, but the code did not reset itself yet so when you disconnected the battery it did.

Its also possible that the computer hasn't realized the problem still exists and it will come back on when it does.

You cleared it by disconnecting the battery. Wait to see if it comes back. If it doesn't come back then it must be fixed. (Clearing the error will NOT make it ignore the same error in the future.)

It's possible your misfiring was intermittent, and over the next few days or weeks it may or may not come back.
