Check Engine Malfunction Indicator lamp on
99 Accord EX 6 Cyn 55K miles. Wife's car and the light that says "check" and shows a picture of the engine came on yesterday. Says not running any differently. Checked the gas cap and oil level (2 qts. low yikes!) based on some search results. Should I reset the light and see if it comes on again or take to auto zone for diagnosis?
Thanks!

RE: Check Engine Malfunction Indicator lamp on
Take it to Autozone and post the code(s) on here. There are a lot of possible faults that can trigger the check engine light on your car. The codes are read as P####.

Sure if you can get the code for free, go for it.
lots of things besides the gas cap can set codes.
if you can post up the code we can give you some good info.
Just remember they read the code for free with the hopes of selling you something that you may or may not need.

RE: Check Engine Malfunction Indicator lamp on
Received P0401 Code from Auto Zone. Probably a failed EGR Valve. They were selling them for $135 and said it was easy to install. They also said I might need EGR pressure sensor which they don't sell.
The showed me where the valve was and it looked like there were just two bolts to remove to replace. Should I do this myself? What about the pressure value?
Thanks

The EGR ports might just be plugged or gummed up from carbon. Get a Haynes manual and try cleaning the ports out and resetting the code before buying the valve. Its the easiest and cheapest way before you have to start replacing parts.
