Default Clicking noise while running A/C and heat...

I have a 98, EX 4 door, 5 speed. When I turn the air or heat on the "1" or "2" setting, there's an annoying clicking noise. When I turn it to "3" or "4", the noise lessens or perhaps the expected high wind noise covers it up.

Took the car to the dealer, they THINK it may be the fan/blower. So for $250, it MAY fix the problem.

Any ideas what it could be????

Sometimes a leaf gets into the blower housing and makes noise as the blower blades hit the leaf. Blower removal is 3 screws (at least on 94-97 models, yours should be similar). You will need a flexible screwdriver extension to access one of the screws near the pax kick guard.

If they are replacing the blower (may not be necessary), the $250 price is not unreasonable. If they are not, it's a bit high.

Just checked autozone repair manual and it indicates evaporator must be removed to access the blower in 98 Accord. This is a big job and $250 won't cover it. Maybe someone else knows different?

good luck

Just watched a video on YouTube about changing blower motor, all it takes is removing three 8mm screws. I'm going to nose around and see what I can do!!! Thanks for the advice!!!

That sounds like a case of the Air Conditioning compressor kicking in and out. What do you think Texas Honda?

From the description and dealer diagnosis, I assumed the noise was inside the cabin. If that is not the case, then AC relay could be cycling.

good luck

Yes, the noise was inside the cabin. It seemed to be coming from the vent itself.

When a fan is old and carbon brushes almost worn out, they will begin clicking. It is not loud or objectionable, but can easily be heard.

good luck
