My 03 Accord (4 cylinder, auto) idle goes up and down when I start it up and seems fine when I drive it. I also got a light on so I had it read at the parts store. The guy states code 1157 man control fuel air metering but couldn't tell me anything more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Any ideas for anything I could check before I take it to a shop? It feels fine while driving, just while stopped or in park the idle goes up and down.

A quick look at the tegger.com site shows that a P1157 is a code for the air/fuel sensor. I think that sensor is a newer version of an oxygen sensor.

The idle problem could be from air in the coolant, or a problem with the air control valve.

I have a 2005 Honda Accord 2,4L and the chk engine light on. code p1157. I replaced the O2 sensor, clear the code , after 5 min chk engine light came back on. Any suggestions.

 

Code 1157 can be a faulty A/F sensor, however since replacement did not resolve the problem is likely a connector, wiring, or PCM fault.

Fault detection requires use of a Volt-Ohm Meter, shop manual and basic electrical diagnostic skills.

Basic procedure is to disconnect the A/F sensor, check for short/open in both signal and ground wires from PCM connector A to the sensor. Find fault and repair, or if no wiring fault is found, a replacement PCM must be sourced (junk yard) and substituted to repair.
