I just changed mine and i put some prestone rust and scale cleaner through the system before i flushed the coolant. I'm not sure if the stuff works but it wasn't very expensive so i tried it.

Default RE: Coolant Question?

I am new to this forum (1 month) and I just replaced the Tbelt and water pump and need to refill with coolant. My other car a 95 Acura Legend is very sensitive to the type of coolant used. Factory silicate and borate free coolant only is recomended to be used in the Legend. If the Prestone is used in this car the results could be a blown head gasket or bad water pump. There is a lot of debate on the subject on the Acura-Legend.com site. I am pleased to see that these problems do not exist with the Accord and I can save about $16 or more buying the extended life Prestone. I assume that this is different from Dexcool which is red. These days one cannot determine the type of coolant by color alone. The Toyota factory coolant is an excellent coolant and is not the same as Dexcool.
