Even when the T-stat is wide open it will help the proper proportions of flow to all the different hoses & stuff. And without it the engine will run too cool. (Not as bad as overheating, but not good either.)

Alright, so my car is up and running, turns out the sensor was shot. Pretty funny that my dad spent the whole night changing the fan module thinking it was that. HAHA! Thanks Jim!
