Default Crank knock

So here's the issue I'm having with my 96 Accord 2.2(non-V-tec)...there's a knocking sound, both at idle and while driving. My mechanic told me it's the crank which is true. I'm wondering if there's a product that will help stop the knock. We're going to SeaFoam it and do a fresh oil change today. I have 174K miles and change oil every 3-4K with high-mileage oil and Lucas oil stabilizer...I'm trying to avoid having any more work done for a while. Any tips would be great. thanks!
Also, I'm wondering if it's worth the extra money to switch to synthetic oil, or a blend. I drive for a living with a lot of highway and some stop and go driving.

wouldn't spend a dime on any of the above, save your money and get a AAA card/membership (with the extended mileage option) you're going to need it...my .02

good news is you can use the block with the hole in the side of it as a conversation piece...

If this car has always had regular service as described and has not been abused, then a loose rod or crankshaft bearing is very unusual.

I would suggest getting a 2nd opinion from a good Honda shop on this issue. Other sounds can be similar but a loose crank/rod bearing is pretty hard to mis-diagnose.

good luck

F22s can get noisy on the bottom end and last a surprisingly long time. Neither synthetic nor Seafoam is going to make a dent in the noise. Heavier weight oil might. How heavy depends on how cold it gets in your area. This time of year, you may want to consider Rotella 15W40, available pretty cheap at Walmart.

yeah I've always done regular maintenance since I bought the car 5 years ago. granted I have put about 100K miles since then and I do deliver for a living...he took a second look at it today and said there's nothing really to be done until she blows, and that the sound is in the block. I definitely have AAA Plus and just renewed. Thanks all.
