Default Curbed! Front End Work

My son hit some ice and curbed the right front wheel causing damage. The dealer estimate was over $900 to replace the following:

RF Steering Knuckle
RF Lower Control Arm
RF Axle Bearing
Front Alignment

Parts come to about $550 and labor the rest at $70/hr. This sounds steep to me and I'm wondering if parts could come cheaper or if good used parts would be workable. Your comments /opinions are appreciated.

That sounds about right, don't know what model year you've got, but to replace all of those components and hae the alignment done will take around 4-5 hours. As far as parts, the knuckle and control arm you'll be fine with used parts, but the axle bearing would be best bought new. I don't know how the pricing is at your Honda dealer, but for me it is cheaper to buy from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com, a dealership parts site based in New England. Hope that helped out

Sorry, neglected to say it is a '91 ex w/ about 120,000 miles on it. As an update, I'm working on getting used parts except for the wheel bearing and it looks like I can get by on about $150 for the parts and another $150 for the work--not at the dealer but at a local shop with a good ex-honda dealer mechanic who USED to work at the dealer. Sounds alot better

kerbs suck when you hit them as they like to bend and break things.......

Nice job on getting the work at a reasonable level

Make sure you get some kind of warranty for his work, the problem that I use to run into was used parts broke before the year and I would have to go to the dealer anyway. I know my dealer here in Daytona Beach warranties thigns for 12 months or 12,0000.
Since I have to file disability, that warranty means alot to me, as I don't have the extra cash to spend if a used part breaks.
Also have the mechanic check the cv joint as well, if that seal breaks, and leaks, there is added cost, if it needs replacing might be cheaper to do it now.
