Hi! I have a 95 coupe 2.2i es. Over the last dew days the brake light and handbrake warning lights come on, followed after a short while by the ABS warning light. If I stop and switch off the engine, they go away when I restart. A day or two later, they come back on again? There seems to be no pattern or cause to this happening, but invariably it seems to happen in heavy traffic. The brake lights are still working at this time and the handbrake is definately off... any ideas what is causing this?
Nothing seems affected by this happening, its just a pain that it does.

Have you checked your brake fluid levels? I've had issues with cars in the past throwing on warning lights over fluid levels... just a quick simple thought

 

you may have a serious brake problem, like your abs controller going out. the reason that the lights are coming on is because a trouble code is being thrown. you dont need to figure out how to get the lights to turn off....... you need to find out what the problem is.

 

Thank you for the thought. I have checked the levels and they are all okay (brake, ABS etc).
Having just spent around an hour and a half in heavy traffic, I thought they would come on again but they didn't, just as well in heavy snow! Its all very strange?
