Default Dashboard Lights

I am still working the bugs out of this new to me 96 EX with the f22b1 engine in it. The dashboard lights up, you can see the dials but not the needles. When you turn the dimmer pot it dims and brightens the lights showing .

Its kind of strange. I cannot tell if I am missing lights or if the existing lights are just too dim.

It has the original radio in it and works.

I really dont want to pull the dash to get this cluster out to check the bulbs unless Im sure that something is burned out. I would rather replace a pot or something that is an easier fix but I am open to recommendations. Thanks!

I think there are some typos in your post.

I think the needles on the gauges are illuminated by two bulbs from above the cluster. You'll likely have to remove the cluster to inspect/replace the bulbs. There are a few steps in removing the cluster, but it isn't difficult.

The common diy thread on top of this forum has a link to online shop manuals. The 94 shop manual is the one you want for this job, because it shows all the locations of the screws to remove the heater control panel.

Default Still battling the cluster lights

I replaced the bulbs for the night lights in the cluster to resolve the backlight issue. After I put it all back together, I found out the check engine light bulb had gone out. Replaced with LED, worked great but was on when it was off, and bright when it was actually lit. removed cluster and replaced with a bulb all good.

Now after its all back together my gear position light is out, just one of them. Its not a bulb and socket its a bulb on a rubber stick. I am having a problem locating this bulb/rubber stick. Before I swap out with the number 1 light I hoped someone here has done the cluster battle and can steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

They are a bulb and socket assembly. They are a dealer part. You can always try to get them out of a cluster from a salvage yard.

BULB & SOCKET ASSY. (14V80MA) (BASE:BLACK) (NS)
Part No.: 78181-SF1-612

But before you replace it I would recommend that you swap one of the good ones with the one that is not working and plug it in and see if the bad bulb location does in fact change. If it does the. You have confirmed it is a bad bulb. There is no need to re install it completely into the dash to do this, just swap locations, plug in and test.
