I went to change my wife's air filter today and noticed that there was something not connected that should have been. The red circled piece is what was disconnected from the accordion hose from the air filter box. Could anyone tell me what it could be and what could be caused for this being off for an extended amount of time?

 

Prob came out when you changed the air filter, or the person before you....the "box" should have a nipple on it, the air tube should have a place for that to slip into.
