Default Distributor Cap Question

So I was taking PaHonda's advice and replacing my Distributor Cap. After removing the spark plug housing I noticed this plastic cover that was under the Distributor Rotor. I had watched 3 videos on youtube on how to replace the distributor cap, (all of the 3 videos were on 96 honda accords). I never noticed the same plastic cover on their videos. I have uploaded a picture of the mystery cap. My question is, is this an aftermarket cap of some sort and should it be removed? Or Is it factory and I should leave it there?

Thanks again

I have probably 5 or 6 h22/f22 distributors laying around and I believe all of them have this cap. Its just there to protect sparks from arcing to where they shouldnt. I would leave it on.

Its OEM for the LX/DX accord. The EX uses a different distributor and doesn't have this shield.

You should download a 94 shop manual from the Online Shop Manuals thread. I put a link to it in the common DIY index on top of this forum.
