Default Do I absolutely need to replace all brake hardware when doing a brake job?

So if I'm replacing pads and rotors can I clean up and re-use the brake hardware or do I absolutely need to get new hardware?

The hardware I'm referring to specifically is those "retaining clips", two per caliper that fit where the brake pads lock into the caliper (top and bottom) where they slide.

Those things are expensive, 5.87 each and I would need four. I would just rather re-use them if I could.

What would you guys do?

If you get OEM pads, the parts are usually included. Not sure exactly what part you mean.

If you mean the little V-shaped springs, these are what I call "relaxation springs". They unload the pad from the brake rotor to reduce sliding drag when no brake pressure is applied. Probabaly worth a few miles per tank, but a good part IMO. They could be re-used, but might get weaker w/ age due to heating/cooling cycles.

good luck

most premium brake pad sets come with them, the brake job i just did had them included and they were the wrong retainers (some call them anti-rattle clips) clean'm up with a wire brush and put just a tiny dab of brake caliper lube where the pad ends contact and you'll be golden.
