I have heard of this symptom before, but never experienced myself. The problem occurs when the AC charge is low. The evaporator is only partially cooled and some air passes through the warmer portion of evap, resulting in problem you've experienced. You need to get a set of manifold gauges to check hi side and low side pressures. You should see low side slightly low (perhaps 15-25 psi) and high side more significantly low (perhaps 1.5-2 x ambient air temp in degF). Check w/ engine at 1500 rpm, doors and windows open, recirculate. This should cause the compressor to stay engaged full time. If it's cycling on/off, this is further indication of low charge.

Or you could pay a shop to remove charge, and refill to specification charge.

Note, you likely have a small leak somewhere that led to partial loss of charge, however a recharge might last a year or more.

good luck

Did you get it charged? Did that resolve the issue?
