Default ecu???

ok here's my issue, i have a 1996 honda accord lx 2.2 a/t (f22a1) and i am going to put the 95 accord 2.2 vtec (f22b) into it. my question is when i change over the ecu, does the ecu have to be from the 95 vtec ex or from a 96 vtec? basically does the ecu have to be obd II program. if anyone has ever done this or something similar please let me know and post any input you may have for me.

thanks!

Someone else asked this question recently. A search should find the post. It's possible to fix but may be a bit of bother. You want to use the 95 Vtec ECU since it will enable the VTEC system correctly, however you are missing wiring in the ECU and underhood harness to mate w/ new engine connectors.

good luck

Are you just swapping engines to get more power out from a vtec engine?

If so, I would use a 96/97 Vtec PCM. You would need to use the 96 Distributor and the 96 oil pump (due to the crank sensors under the timing belt cover). Plus your oxygen sensors will plug into the harness at their normal spot. The 95 exhaust has the o2 sensor just before the catalytic converter.

You will also have to wire up the Vtec components to the new PCM. It will only be 2 or 3 wires.

basically i'm doing it for the extra power, didnt want to spend 1000 plus on a complete swap so i'd rather do this gradually. as far as the wiring for the vtec to the pcm, that can be spliced in correct? and distributor/oil pump would be used from my car 96 to the 95 vtec? o2 sensors will be the same as my 96? or should i use the 95 parts for that?
