Unhappy ECU!please help

hey everyone,
Am new to this forum.I have a 2003 honda accord A/T EX trim .Recently the check engine light started coming up n sometimes if i just turn off the ignition n start the car back again the light goes.Sometimes it stays. And i have noticed that once the light comes, theres difference in the way the car accelerates.i.e. acceleration is pretty slow, gear shift takes time,n if i press the accelerator to the floor, the car wont suddenly shift down n accelerate,it moves in the same gear.I took the car to honda dealership and after diagnosing they said ill have to replace the ECU($ 1700) and throttle body( $1200) and would cost me around 11,000 riyals (around $3050).

Can i buy a secondhand ECU and give it to the dealers to program it or should i go for some aftermarket performance ECU.I dont knpw much about this parts of cars,so...i need help...or if anyone can check the price for a new ECU in the states because i don't think its that costly in the US.

Pls help me out
Thanks for reading

Wooaahhh...hold on there. DO NOT listen to the dealership. They said you need a new ECU and Throttle Body? That is ridiculous and makes no sense. And $1200 for a Throttle Body is absolute robbery. Did they give a reason?
Sounds like classic dealership rip-off to me.
In the USA, we have auto parts stores that can pull the ECU codes (Check Engine Light) codes for you for free. If the Check Engine Light is coming on there has to be a trouble code. Sounds like your car is going into "limp home mode" when the Check Engine Light comes on.
You REALLY need to find out what code it is throwing and post it here.
I SERIOUSLY DOUBT it is the ECU.
If you can't get the codes, take the car to an independent shop. NOT THE DEALER. And ask them to diagnose the problem. DO NOT tell them what the dealership told you was wrong. They need to figure out the problem on their own without any influence from anywhere else.

Where are you located & exactly what car/engine do you have? I wonder if it has a motorized throttle body; that would explain why it's so expensive. Still doesn't explain whether it's really bad or the dealer simply want to throw parts at it (using YOUR money).

yea i told dealership to give me the car back and took to a local garage, they did a computer check n they told they'll have to check all the sensors and wiring.

And one more thing that i found out is this engine light depends on the temp....like in the morning n noon it shows up all the time and have the acceleration problem but the car is fine at night..no lights...normal handling and acceleration.(btw temp is around 45-50 Degree Celsius here now!!)

i have a 2003 Honda Accord 2.4 VTI-E A/T...And am from Qatar (Middle East)
