EGR vs EVAP Repair
Hi guys. My daughter has a 2000 Accord V6 with about 205K miles. Last week the car developed starting problems. Cold starts were ok but restarts after 20 min. or more of driving were a big problem, taking many restarts before engine would keep running. The check engine lite went on. Honda dealer said the problem was due to EGR ports being clogged with carbon, and EGR valve not working. She had ports cleaned and new valve installed, for $585, and car is good now. Looking back through repair history for her car I found a repair done in 7/13 when check engine light came on. Code pulled was P1457. Charcoal canister and vent valve were replaced (mileage 195K). Is this the same repair as the one described above (EGR) or is it different? Just checking for my own education. I will get the code pulled for the EGR repair.Thanks.
EGR port clogged generally will give a P0401.
P1457 is leak detected in EVAP control system (EVAP control canister system). Although it may be something else on the canister side of the EVAP system, some of the usual culprits are the EVAP bypass solenoid valve or the EVAP vent shut valve.

evap is evaporative emissions containment, it doesnt let unburnt exhaust gases into the atmosphere.
egr is exhaust gas recirculation. it is also emissions control, it introduces inert exhaust gases into the combustion chamber to reduce combustion temps, reducing NOx emissions.
unrelated as aforementioned
