Default No cabin heat or defroster whiel AC works

Hi,

For the last year or so I noticed periodic failures in delivering heat in my car. My cabin heat or defrost requiring heat would not heat the air delivered at those times. In the past I would play with the settings, like turning down the temperature to the coldest and then turning it back to the very highest temperature a couple of times and i would get heat at some point.

Now this has all failed and I have absolutely no heat regardless of what I try.
I have a 2003 Honda accord coupe V6.

My AC works great and always has.

What can I do to isolate this problem and possibly fix it?
I just drove the car 2000 miles and she performed wonderfully.

I love her!

Air mix motor (or motors if dual climate control) is likely fix. You can watch the air mix motor under the dash as you change temp setting and see if motor is moving smoothly and holding position. In some cases, the motor will make a clicking/buzzing sound when "hunting" for correct position. Fix is to replace the air mix motor that is faulty.

good luck

It is dual climate control. What are the chances that both motors go out?

But you have me thinking - I never engage the dual setting so its probable the passenger side heating still works if I engage the dual climate control?
Or does one not working mean both done work?

There are two air mix motors and one out is likely. Both out seems unlikely but possible. Time to get under dash and see what's happening.

good luck

If the mixer motor is hunting is it bad. Mine hunts and sounds like a hamster on a running wheel

Hunting will cause a clicking/grinding sound. Yes, motor is defective if this occurs.

Motor can be repaired, but it is a delicate job. I tried and dropped a tiny gear which disappeared.

Following is repair of Lexus air mix motor, but Honda is similar.

good luck
