Thermostat could be in backwards or upside down or is not opening at the correct temp. Radiator fan is not operating. Air is trapped in the cooling system so system need to be bled and I recommend using a radiator funnel to run the car with the system open.

Just some basic ideas to start with.

^^^ good comments

I have a '92 EX w/o your cooling issues.

So check:
your thermostat for proper opening temp,
check for proper coolant freezepoint (-37F),

I think the thermostat would not fit physically in its housing backwards or upside-down.

Cleaning the cooling system is an idea, maybe the coolant passages in the radiator are obstructed with scale???

Jim- by "up side down" I think that turtle meant the "jiggle" pin could be down instead of up - can't say that I ever tried to install one that way but it might be possible

Of course it has been a few days since the OP has come back so we might never know.

Possibly, but I remember (on a 1998) there's a little recessed cavity in the housing to make room for that rattle-pin.

But it's certainly worth double-checking that the T-stat is installed correctly.
