Default failed emissions

hey guys i just went through inspection and everything was fine expect my emissions!! my NOx reading was 1096 and they said that it had to be under 1045......does anyone have any idea what can get me to pass without breaking the bank? i have a 95' 4 cylinder and 140,000 miles......i just want to pass without emptying my bank account.....thanks in advance!

Cleaning out the EGR ports and passages is a good start and will probably get you below 1045 on the test, after that it's on to the catalytic converter.

There is a good DIY on here in the DIY section.

NOx comes from high combustion temperatures, so EGR is a good start. Also you could retard your spark timing a bit (within the tolerance).
