Default Fan problem

Hi everyone, I'm new and checking this out cause I have a bit of an issue on my dad's car.

It's a 1990 Accord LX.

Now recently, it developped a problem of suddently shutting off. It did that too a few years ago (two I think), and it ended up being the main relay. This time, it's the fan besides the radiator. It doesn't turn on. We thought it was the aux fan switch, and we just replaced it this morning, but it doesn't change anything. My dad tried using a cable and grounding the plug that goes it in, to the engine, and you can hear a click and then the fan will start. Could it be the fan relay ? We have no real idea as to what it is, but perhaps someone here knows.

Thanks in advance !

pass side is the main rad cooling fan.........did you chk the fuse ?? does the other fan come on ??? both fans are supposed to come on either with a/c on or when coolant gets hot enough
if fuse is ok,, chk to see if you are getting BOTH power and ground at the fan connector , located below the coolant overflow bottle . if either no power or ground than we need to diagnose ..

try and let us know

It's the only fan I can see... and it doesn't have AC. The fuse seems to be okay.

After tweaking with it, changing the switch, and checking things... the fan works on its own ! Not for long though. After going for a ride of say 10 minutes and having the engine running for another 30, for about how long is the fan supposed to turn ? The temp needle is at about 2/3 of the way or so. The fan turns on every now and then and runs for about a minute and then turns off. The car did not stall or anything though. Yet, after we turned the engine off and removed the key nothing happened. I would think the fan should come on, right ? Not sure it's completely fixed but I think we're on the right path now...

ahhhhhhhh no a/c,, i reside in AZ so i assumed every car had a/c oooooooops

anyho,, it sounds like the fan works properly,, it is suppose to come on for a while, cool the engine coolant and shut off til it needs to come on again, 2/3 on the gauge is slightly more than i would ike usually these cars run at about 1/2 or a bit lower but than again your car has only 1 fan

I have never seen a 1990 accord with only 1 fan ,, that is a big radiator to handle for just 1 fan
