Default Fluctuating rpms while driving

Hi guys, I have a 90 accord exautomatic. About twice in a 20 minute drive, I will accelerate from a near-stop and the rpm needle will waver up and down with very slow acceleration. The only way to get it to go faster is to punch the gas, and even then it doesnt feel like much gas is being given to the engine. I dont know how to work on cars.(I have done minor repairs with info from this site) I am wondering what is wrong and how much it would cost me to get it fixed.

I had a similar problem about 6 months back, but it hasn't happened to me since. Things that it could be are the sensor, gearing could be worn and might be slipping. Also could be worn wiring to the speedo from the sensor, or the speedo itself. Sorry I can't tell you more, but I haven't looked much into it myself since the problem seemed to solve itself.

Further research reveals your speed sensor is starting to go bad.
