Default Fuel Door wont close

So since I bought my 04 accord, the trunk/fuel door latch next to the drivers seat has felt pretty lose, whenever I pop the trunk I have to push it back down to go to the flat position and whenever I push it down to pop the fuel door I have to pull it back up to its original position. As of recently I pushed it down to pop the fuel door and now the fuel door wont close shut even though the lever is in the flat position it should be. I saw videos on how to fix the cable with a little plastic piece if the door doesn't open, but im wondering if this is the same problem I have with my door not closing. If not then it's probably the whole cable because my trunk still pops with my remote control on my key. Let me know if anyone needs any more information and as always, I greatly appreciate the help!

The fuel door not staying close may be due to the latch on the fuel lid.

Gently adjust the latch with your hand to straighten it and see if that fixes it.

What you're talking about with adding a plastic piece is on Civics, which seem to have this as a common problem. They also use 2 levers (on some models), but our cars use a single lever (after 97) to open both the trunk and the gas door. This means that since your trunk opens/latches, that something in the fuel door needs adjusting (probably the latch). But, it sounds like you might have a broken spring in the latch handle assembly since it's not "auto re-setting", as you mention you're having to manually re-set it after use. It might be worth popping the cover off and having a look.
