Sound like a timing problem to me.
(You can get a check engine light to go off temporarily by disconnecting the battery)

I went to Auto Zone this morning and the code came up P1259. Definition VTEC Systems Malfunction Probable Causes: 1 Low oil/ pressure 2. Blocked oil pressure 3. Failed VCT oil control valve. Oil's not low , but the other day the low oil pressure light did come on but I can't remember if it was right after I started it up or not. It didn't stay on longand hasn't come on since. PO had put a little sticker to block the CEL because it was on all the time , he was told not to worry about it. I'm taking that sticker down.

I believe the VCT valve is the VTEC solenoid, may be wrong though.

There is a long but simple series of electrical checks of the VTEC pressure switch to isolate the electrical fault setting this code. Most likely the switch has failed open. It should be normally closed when engine is off. However, problem could be shorted wiring. Part of testing requires a special adapter fitting that would only be available from Honda.

Download a Honda Accord manual (94-97 should work) and look at the VTEC fault diagnosis for DTC 22 which corresponds to P1259.

good luck
