Default Fuel Injection Air (FIA) Port quesiton

I was looking at the shop manual about the intake manifold removal procedure. I noticed that the manual says to clean the FIA port, and only the V-tec engines (F22B1) have it. What does the FIA valve do? Why is it only on the V-tec engine? What problems would a clogged FIA port cause?

I have the problem where my city gas mileage is ~20 mpg (it might be less), but on the highway the mileage is 30+. The tires are new and I keep the pressure to spec. I also have no mods on my car either it is all stock and all maintenance items are up to date. I calculate the gas mileage by how much gas I add to the tank/miles traveled over that time. I have noticed that big difference in gas mileage for some time now. My car is at 210,000 miles, so I am guessing that the intake is pretty dirty and was planning on clening it and the TB out over the holiday weekend.

I just would like other member's opinion(s) on the FIA system on the Accord, because I have no idea what its purpose is.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

I could take some wild guesses at what it's referring to by FIA port but chances are I'd be wrong so I'll keep my mouth shut *L*

Have you tried sea foaming it and cleaning the EGR Ports?

Yes.

The EGR ports are clear and I have run seafoam through the intake. I've seen a pic of an intake from a 5th gen, and I am not sure if seafoam can clean all of that crap out of there.

I haven't heard of an FIA port.The only thing I canthink ofwould be 'fast-idle air' but most of uscall that the FIT valve. But if it was that or even the AIC valve, the non-vtec engine would also have it.

If you have a shop manual, maybe you can point out on this picture where they're talking about.

And I can only think of one thing that would hurt your city mileage but not hurt your highway mileage. That's your right foot...

I don't drive the car hard while in town. This note is in the intake removal/installation instructions.

The FIA chambers are labeled in the upper-right corner of that picture. What do the corresponding chambers look like on the manifold itself?

I'm not real sure of their function. They look like maybe they provide some path for air to be drawn in around the injector nozzle. Maybe they reduce the tendency for coking of the fuel??

Maybe inspect the FIA solenoid valve that's labeled in the picture (to the left of the FIA chambers)

FIA = Fuel Injection Air

I have a broken FIA control valve and have been trying to find the name and replacement. I had to buy a haynes manual for it. Here is the information.

There's more information, but it's for testing.
