Default Gas cap replacement for Honda Accord Coupe '12 V6

Hello,

The piece that tethers my gas cap to the opening broke and I was looking at a replacement as I like the functionality of it. I have found the part on Ebay claiming to be "OEM" and was curious if anyone has purchased there and had success/issues. I ask because when I called the dealership I was told if I go with a third party the engine light will come on immediately.

Ebay link to OEM part (Price at dealership is $30+)

Thanks in advance for your help!

The photo from that ebay link is actually the OEM part, even has "HONDA" labels on the bag and the correct part number for a 2012 Accord Coupe EX-V6 automatic transmission (I didn't look at other versions of 2012). Hopefully that photo is true and the seller doesn't actually ship you something else.

What the dealer told you is partly true. If you go to the corner parts store & get a gas cap that is some other brand, then it may or may not seal properly. The cap has to seal airtight, and if it doesn't then your CEL will come on.

But if you go to another dealer, or if you go to someone else and buy an actual genuine Honda part it'll be OK.

Thank you for your advice, I went ahead and ordered the gas cap from Ebay.
