Default Gearshift stuck in Park. 98 Accord EX

Ok guys I'm new, have read some but do not see anything dealing with my situation... and the Accord my daughter was driving will not come out of PARK and is now stuck in a Walmart parking lot. My 2000 EX has a slot on the console for the ignition key to manuallu override this I think. Can anyone give me the info I need here?
Thanks.
Jim

Her 98 should have the key slot to get it out of park. She should be able to put the car in neutral and be able to start it with her key.

Check that her brake lights are working when she pushes down on the brake pedal.

I had a 98 and IIRC that slot for the key is hidden by the plastic bezel around the gearshift lever. You might have to lift up that bezel (#4) to expose the slot. Any key or screwdriver that you can press into that hole will work.

JIM Blake . you are correct,, the slot for the key is under the bezel # 4 ,, ,pry it out ( real easy to do ) and use the key to get car into neutral and start it........

Blow the horn, if it work fuse is ok,, if not chk the fuse first
if horn blows, than do as Pa suggested see if brake lites work,, if not most likely you got a bad brake switch located under dash at brake pedal ...
there is a write up on the DIY section as well to help you diagnose
try and let us know

Default 98 Accord Ex stuck in Park

Hello again,
We have solved the problem with a brakelight switch replacement. $190. I know I could have done it for the cost of the switch. BUt not as I vacationed in Fla with the car in Augusta. Thanks for the replies, my 01 EX has the key slot exposed on the console next to gearshift. I will remove the bezel and find that slot for her to access should she again experience this problem.
Thanks again
Jim

Default Stuck in Park.

I know it seems high but unmentioned was the fact that my mech. had to get the car from a WalMart parking lot to his place to work on it. So I expect the bulk of the cost was there.
230k on a brakelight switch. not bad I guess.
